… and a feeling of completion with the delivery of the full portion of Yellow Submarine books today from our friends at Advance Printing. They are beautiful!
Thank you to Doug and Dave, the most friendly and helpful printers-helpers imaginable. Wouldn’t let us lift a finger.
Hope they’ll send us a photo of them all wearing the Yellow Sub face masks we gave them at the end of the day.
Happy Birthday to my co-author, Laura E. Cortner, who is the reason this book exists
As the 50th anniversary of Yellow Sub approached, my time was completely devoted to a three-year project to recreate my most famous artcar, the Woodstock Bus.
Fortunately, I was able to rely on Laura to collate our new interviews with my old research, but I was surprised how many new leads she turned up in symbolic analysis and the socio-political impacts.
This book describes a loving family of artists who banded together for a year of peace, love and hard work to create the Yellow Submarine film—in far less time than it took us to write these books about them.
May their work and their stories continue to inspire us all.
A sense of euphoria today! Under a Sky of Blue we approved the color proofs to start the presses rolling on volume 2 of Inside the Yellow Submarine (It’s All In The Mind)!
Dr. Bob and Laura Cortner ventured out fully masked, and in the parking lot of Advance Printers, we met up with the extremely talented Jenny Dyer, our designer on this beautiful book.
Together we were welcomed inside by the whole Quinn Family of printers at this multi-generational family-owned printshop business.
The first test page looked great, and we gave them the “full speed ahead Mr. Boatswain” approval to begin rolling the presses.
Now it’s out of our hands and we have to be patient.
We’d love to say they’ll be done and shipping out “very soon,” but in Gerry’s predictable way, he would only commit to saying it will be done “when it’s done.”
This being another holiday-short week, we can see that unfortunately it will not be finished before the end of the year, as we had been aiming for.
We Are So Close!
The ship-date will be in January — early January, we hope!
Some of Dr. Bob’s more unusual Yellow Submarine buttons and pins. Thanks to our good friend and great photographer, Stuart Zolotorow, for these beautiful photographs of Dr. Bob’s Beatles pin collection.
